A member of the burn crew uses a drip torch to ignite a prescribed fire. The prescribed fire will burn the hardwood stems of the under­brush to keep it in check. This creates room for the growth of grasses and other plants that provide habitat and food for Bobwhite Quail, Red-cockaded Woodpeckers, Bachman's Sparrows and gopher tortoises.
